THEMA S.A., the Thessaloniki Metro Operation and Maintenance Company, was established through a collaboration between ATM S.p.A. and Egis Group, two globally renowned entities with extensive experience in infrastructure and transport services.
Established in 1931, ATM manages since then the public transport in Milan area. With 17 years of expertise in Automatic Metro systems, ATM has successfully managed the operation and maintenance of networks in Milan, Riyadh, and Copenhagen. Meanwhile, Egis is internationally recognized for its proficiency in designing and implementing transport infrastructure and services, handling operations at 20 airports and 27 motorways worldwide. With the core objective of delivering high-quality passenger transportation services, THEMA is committed to provide Thessaloniki with a modern Public Transport Mode characterized by the reliability of its network, passenger safety, accessibility, and environmental sustainability.
The Thessaloniki Metro is equipped with a Platform Screen Door (PSD) system at all stations. This advanced system isolates the tunnels along the entire length of the platform, preventing access to the tracks and the areas where trains move. It offers numerous advantages for passenger safety and comfort.
The Thessaloniki Metro Operation Control Center is the “brain” of the System and the Network. It is where all Metro operations are monitored and controlled in real-time, ensuring the safe and reliable execution of routes and passenger service.
